In fact, this sector already accounts for up to three per cent of electricity produced in developed countries.

The challenge, then, is to bring down costs and reduce carbon footprint without compromising on network performance and service quality.

To do this, telcos are turning increasingly to automation, and AI/ML-based systems that optimize energy consumption based on the demands placed on any network element in real time.
